Barrie Orme's piobaireachd recordings are of the settings he learned from Hugh Fraser, who in turn had learned from his father Simon Fraser. Simon Fraser had recorded, on staff notation, the piobaireachd brought to Australia by his father Hugh Archibald Fraser in 1828. These settings predate the standardization of piobaireachd and provide a glimpse of the older style of playing this wonderful music.
Volume 3 consists largely of incomplete tunes chosen because they demonstrate an unusual movement, a variation not heard elsewhere or unconventional timing. In addition track 18 is a recording of Hugh Fraser playing Mary's Praise as given to him by his father Simon Fraser.
